    • Todd T Rubick The American Cherokee Indians worship the Supreme Being, Ye ho waah or Yo ho wah, which is very similar to the Hebrew name of God (Yahweh or Yahoveh).

The Cherokee Indians believe in one Supreme Being--the Creator-- and have surprising connections to Christianity.

Ancient Cherokee Indians believed before 1750 that God was going to appear on Earth as a man and they called this person by five different Old Testament (Hebrew) names for Jesus.

The Cherokees have three actual cities of refuge, they have the stories of the great flood, and many other Old Testament stories.

They also adhere to the prohibitions found within the Ten Commandments.

Cherokees keep one day without work for prayer.

The name for Cherokee People is “A ni yun wi yah”, which in English means “The Principle People” or akin to “The People of God.” The devotion of the Cherokee people was to the Supreme Holy Spirit who could not be looked upon and whose energy was the fire of all creation and the fire of all life and who resided in the heavens and on earth through purified people. They were rigidly non idolaters and neither would they observe any religious images among them or keep idolatrous religious ceremonies. Instead the Cherokee people adored the one Great Spirit, God, who they described as “the only Giver and Taker of life.” They were devoted to a higher principled way of living according to their ancient religious beliefs of the one benevolent God.

The Cherokees believed this sole Author of creation was with them and they with God by His blessing of mankind with animals and all plant and vegetable life. Their religious worship very closely paralleled the Mosiac institution in the Old Testament of the Bible. They were not pagans and were warned each year by their priests, just as the Old Testament warned about “ heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron” (1 Timothy 4:1,2).

When we look as far back as the 1600s, there still existed one minority sect of the Cherokee people who declared there existed three entities above, who were always joined together in action and spirit, and were of the same mind. It was said that these three entities were always one in sentiment, in thought and action. They created all things and governed all things. The three entities sat on white seats above and all prayers were to be directed toward them. They had helpers and messengers known as angels who came to earth to help attend to the affairs of men. The Cherokees believed that in the beginning this trinity of entities created all creatures and creation to be harmless, as in Eden

The Cherokee people were obedient to Ye ho waah (Jehovah God) and assembled for worship at the structures they were commanded to erect. They met early in the morning. When the people were all seated and silent, the priest known as U ku wi a hi (Uku), would commence his speech. The Uku would command the Cherokees to obey Ye ho waah in every respect, telling people they must do all that He directed them to do and to never disobey Him secretly because they were never alone because Ye ho waah was with them. They were never to indulge in idle or vain conversation, or call anyone wicked names. They were to abstain from all lewdness and polygamy. Children were to be hardworking and obedient to their parents

This and many more fascinating facts about the history of the Cherokee people can be found at this link.

      Cherokee Nation of Mexico
      Part 1 - Introduction
Part 2 - Ancient Religious Beliefs Of The Cherokee People
Part 3 - The Great Spirit
Part 4 - Fragments Of The Cherokee Religious Beliefs
      Part 5 - Cultural Transformation

Since 1 B.C., there has not been a Christian who does not tell of “Jesus” by using that very same name. Since 500 A.D., there has not been a Muslim who does not tell of Mohammed by using that very same name. In 1750, the Cherokees knew Jesus and God by five commonly accepted Old Testament names, yet knew nothing of the New Testament name “Jesus”. Where and how did the Cherokees obtain such ancient knowledge? When asked, upon first contact with Europeans, they replied “directly from God”.

      Go Hee Dah
      (A Long Time Ago)

“We Cherokee knew long before the Good Apostle John that what ever is true is from Unayklanahi, the one creator of all things, God.” “You need not bow to other human permission to believe in anything you believe to be true; as a Cherokee it is your responsibility to do so without fear, for this is the most traditional way of the Cherokee.”

The one God of the Cherokee was not the vengeful god of a small tribe of war loving people. The one God in whom the Cherokee believe is benevolent and has no specific chosen people. Of all living things, only people have been chosen by God, in that they were created with the ability to choose their path. The path to God is by using their heart, soul, and mind for that which is good to be a “good” or “godly” person a “principled” person, whom the Cherokee called “A ni yun wi yah”. To strive to become A ni yun wi yah is to acknowledge the desire by a Cherokee to become a principled person, but they must first choose God’s white path of peace, which is what the ancient Cherokees sought. They saw themselves as children of God. Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God. Cherokees spoke the Old Testament names for Jesus thousands of years before he appeared two thousand years ago. However, this early knowledge does not give privilege, only the responsibility which all of the Creator’s human creations have and share, which is to move toward God and goodness in thought and action. Of course, some individuals, groups or nations may choose the opposite. All histories, written and oral, of all peoples show the drastic cost of human actions based on divine right, skin coloration, religious differences, and the belief that you are chosen and thus released from responsibility of being civilized which is to treat others as you want to be treated, or in the words of the New Testament, to love thy neighbor as thyself.

      (Photo - Right)
The great Cherokee educator and social activist Sequoyah urged Cherokees to come & live in freedom and dignity in Coahuila.

Approximately 3500 to 4000 years ago, Cherokee legend says that they were visited by a spiritual being who taught these principle people how to live in peace with animals and humans, and how to have the proper respect for nature. The legend has caused many Cherokee and other people to believe that it was Christ, or a manifestation of someone like him, who chose to appear, giving instructions and prophecies to the Cherokee people. Is this possible? If we compare it to the similarity of the accounts of God appearing or making Himself known unto men in the Old Testament Christian Bible, then we can only agree that the legend of the Cherokee people is possibly accurate and true. Because this instruction is widely believed to have already occurred once in human history, another appearance to other humans is less difficult to understand and believe, as there is supporting evidence of tribal stories exactly like the Old Testament Bible within several Semitic tribes, and globally in many indigenous tribes.

Remember that all things true are not contained within the Bible, which is not to say that what is in the Bible is not true. A map of the United States is not in the Bible; it is not relevant to the core message of the Bible. The historical Bible’s setting only allows the reader to better understand the intended message. Thus, when the ancient Cherokee sang, spoke, and chanted, as was heard and documented by several Europeans as late as 1755, the names “Shiloh”, “Head of All Things”, “Ye ho wah”, “the Sun of Righteousness”, and “the Morning Star”, they were using names or titles which were both Old Testament and Cherokee religious words or phrases for God. These Cherokee words are considered by most modern Bible scholars as also being Old Testament names used for Jesus before his coming and in that time before the New Testament said that the Angel first said his name, “Jesus Christ”, to Mary, the mother of Jesus. In Cherokee, God was called “U nay klah nah hey”, the “Creator of All Things”; the other five names were also used to describe God or the spiritual person the Cherokees believed that he sent to earth to instruct them.

The ancient Cherokees also knew what a swine was before the Europeans imported such, and had a prohibition against eating swine and many other foods considered unclean. Cherokees would keep one day without work for prayer. Cherokee would marry only outside of their clan. A Cherokee woman could divorce her husband without physical violence to her. Other tribes cut off her ears, or burnt her. Cherokees apparently had New Testament compassion. When a man died, his wife could be taken as a second wife, after the passage of time, by a surviving brother of the deceased husband, which was exactly the process documented by several different Semitic tribes in the Old Testament.

Also occurring approximately 3500 to 4000 years ago, the Cherokee language separated from the Iroquois language group and stayed separated, because the vast majority of Cherokee words changed radically with the addition of new words, logically because of integration with some other peoples and their language. This explains why other indigenous groups, for example in the Iroquois family of languages, do not have the same belief system which includes Old Testament words and concepts in their ancient religious practices (from 1750 and before).
    • Todd T Rubick All people bring language, culture, and religious beliefs with them Where did the Cherokee obtain these early Old Testament names for Jesus, but, most importantly, not use or know the actual New Testament name of “Jesus”? There is no Christian missionary of My Christian church known that did not or does not teach the name of Jesus Christ, yet the Cherokee used five other commonly accepted Old Testament names for Jesus. Some Muslim groups have recently claimed early contact with North American Native people, but what Muslim does not speak of Mohammed? Christians talk about Jesus, Muslims about Mohammed it is the mandatory core of their belief. Thus, logic and common sense would dictate these choices: that the Cherokee received into it’s tribe a people who brought these Old Testament words and concepts with them from outside the Americas, that the Cherokee received such instruction and knowledge directly from U nay klah nah hey, the creator of all things, or that they were received from Jesus (even though they did not use his New Testament name) who brought these names and instruction from God to the Cherokee. The written historical records of the ancient Cherokees claim that all three of the above scenarios are exactly what occurred.

Also consider that the oldest Cherokee migration story reflects that “they traveled over land a great distance, came to the ocean. built rafts, and crossed. They landed and then went west, north, and south.” Please note that a Pacific crossing, upon arriving in the Western Americas, cannot go west, only east, north, and south. Logic, geography, and oral traditional support the opposite: an “Atlantic crossing” of some tribe of people who may have considered themselves a principle people, who knew the One God that was benevolent and taught forgiveness, and who were against human or live animal sacrifices or, cannibalism, as was reflected in actual ancient Cherokee law. Different physical traits existed and were documented within the Cherokee-variations in eye and skin colors, straight and curly hair, facial hair among the men which make them somewhat generally different from most other Native American groups. In 1541, Commandante Alva, under Hernan DeSoto, the first historically documented (but not the actual first) Europeans to see the Cherokee, wrote that many of the Cherokee were as fair skinned and blond as the Spanish soldiers under him. Of course, in North America, the majority were a very handsome reddish bronze cast. Only the Cherokees, Mayans and Incans had a word for the number one thousand; no other Native American groups had this concept. “One thousand” in Cherokee was called “the ancient ones’ one hundred”, meaning that their ancestors had at one time higher mathematic capabilities than the Cherokee of the mid 1700’s when this ancient Cherokee phrase was historically documented. Other differences included the practice ritual of daily bathing going to water regardless of the weather not unlike the Essenes, who also religiously bathed. The Cherokee also had an Ark, a chest containing sacred items, and they built mounds with temples atop. The Cherokees are the only intact surviving Native American group to have been documented as living on a moun at the headwaters of the Ohio River. This is seen by the writings of the Walum Ollum, which is a history of the Delaware people who fought the Cherokee for this land for over a period of 160 years, ending in approximately 700 A.D.

      (Photo - Right)
Chief Rogers’ great grandmother, Mary Price, who taught her sons Cherokee ways & incantations for health problems.

Unlike most of the mound builders, who practiced ritualistic cannibalism, the Cherokee had strict laws concerning such, in that they would put to death (before the sun that day went down) anyone caught practicing it, inside or outside the tribe. The Cherokee word for cannibal in English is “raven mocker”; you will find this in the oldest Cherokee stories, however the above is an ancient law and the old stories are the vehicles for remembrance of the law.

When a Cherokee is asked, even in this present time, whether part blood or full blood, if they strictly consider themselves subjectively a Native American and/or something else, a great many of these Cherokees will reply that being Cherokee is being “something else”, or Native American plus something else. Ancient Cherokees didn’t know Jesus by that name, but they said in 1750 that they knew God was to appear on earth as a man and they called this person by five different Old Testament names for Jesus. Also consider that the Cherokees had three actual cities of refuge, they had the stories of the flood, and many other Old Testament stories, and that they also had the prohibitions found within the Ten Commandments. These ancient Cherokee religious words and teachings, as practiced and followed by the ancient Cherokee, were apparently from a time period of between 500 B.C., when the Jewish tribes (one of several Semitic language groups) first obtained the ability to read and write in Aramaic and started writing down what we call the Old Testament, and 4000 B.C., where the story of Noah (which was known by all of these Semitic language tribes, both Jewish and non Jewish) first appeared in Semitic (non Jewish) writings, the Gilgamesh scrolls. The second oldest known writing of the story of Noah and the flood is in India. Clearly, these early stories are the actual and physical property of mankind, not any specific people, from the beginning of history, which was oral tradition before writing came into being.

The Cherokee language is, in structure, like the Iroquois language; however, almost all of the words are different. Osivo in Cherokee means hello; Casiho in Sanskrit (the oldest mother language of all European, East Indian, Arabic, and Semitic languages) means hello also. In prehistoric times, there were Africans in Central America and southern called the Olmecs who apparently traveled from Africa to Central America. Whether they were lost or simply superb seafarers is not known, but they did have what appears to be a magnetic compass with them, predating the Egyptians by 2700 years. If one group of people can make that journey, why not another? And if another people did so, would they not, due to favorable ocean currents being absolutely necessary for such a journey, be from an area which could be the Mediterranean coast, the Canary Islands, Egypt, or the Middle East, which are close to these black Africans who colonized Central America and southern Mexico? Remember that these are the areas north of Africa where tribal stories say that God is said to have spoken to man, as is believed by Christians, Jews and Muslims. These are the exact same religious stories which are in the first four books of the Old Testament that are, as of today, read and believed by Muslims, Jews, and Christians, almost a billion people.

In the writings, journals and reports of various renowned missionaries to the Cherokee people we learn the Cherokees had religious beliefs that were much more compassionate than the ways of many white men that had come over to the Cherokee country from Europe. Their religious festivals, although different from the ways of the world outside the Cherokee Nation, reflected their love for one another and devotion to the one Author of creation, God.
    • Todd T Rubick Mexican Cherokees.

The Cherokee people, by any standard or measure of civilized values, were not uncivilized savages as portrayed by popular media and even some missionaries who had labored under denomination blindness. The Cherokees occupied a large percentage of this great land of America. America was as much their land as the Promised Land was to the Semitic tribes or earlier peoples as recorded in the Bible. Like all good tribes, the Cherokee people fought with a vengeance to keep their property, whether land or culture, with both the Europeans and long before them with other Native American tribes when they and their religions encroached. Eventually the Cherokee people became once again A People In Exodus; the Trail of Tears from the Eastern U.S. to Indian Territory was exodus number six in Cherokee history. The first exodus was the migration myth; the second exodus was from an island in the south going to the north; the third exodus was from a Cherokee city mound at the headwaters of the Ohio; the fourth was from the Atlantic seaboard south to Georgia and North Carolina; the fifth was when twenty five percent of the tribe left for Mexico in 1720; the sixth was the Trail of Tears (1839) to Indian Territory; the seventh exodus will be (as Sequoyah prophesied) when all Cherokees come back together and form Kituwah, which was told to me by a Cherokee holy man from Tahlequah, Oklahoma who is now in heaven. “Kituwah” is an old sacred pronunciation of the number fourteen, which mans the seventh heaven of the seventh heaven, a cross between Eden and Shangrila, a place of peace and harmony. The ways of other Native Americans and the white man would over the course of time transform their culture and cause them to almost lose the fragments of their noble ancient beliefs. At this writing the Cherokee people are just starting to move back together.
The Ancient Religious Beliefs of the Cherokee People

Paganism is when people worship processes instead of the Creator, God Himself. Pagan means someone who is ignorant of God. The Cherokees never gave special adoration or worship to any images, dead men, evil spirits, extraterrestrial luminaries or any human-created being or personage. A body would be buried before the sun went down, time permitting.

First, detractors from other Native American tribes, then the European Westerners, tended to believe the myth that the religion of the Cherokee Indians was no more than primitive emotion and pagan tradition. Conflict came because time and time again the Cherokee people believed completely in protecting their land, their people and their mono deity beliefs. These ancient Cherokee religious beliefs were at the very heart of the Cherokee Nation. They bowed to no man nor kissed no idol, for they believed this was God’s direct instruction.

      (Photo - Right)
A bearded man in a cloth cap distinguishes this Mayan carving.

In the 1700s (according to James Adair, who lived and studied among them and spoke their language), the Cherokees did not even believe the sun was any bigger than it appeared to the naked eye, and neither did they, or could they be made to, lay prostrate or bow to the sun or to one another or any other object whatsoever. They only bowed when they were making a mutual peace or renewing peace with outsiders or in their religious dances honoring God. In the 1700s there was no evidence that the Cherokee tribes or people were involved in the pagan religion Animism, the religion of based on fear that was most common among ancient primitive peoples. Animism causes people to fear vengeful spirits that live in rocks, mountains, trees, wind, rain, fire, and other elements of the earth. This fear causes them to offer live sacrifices and bow down to the sun as a god in order to set themselves free from these lurking evil spirits. Cherokees, however, prayed to the one God of creation in all four principle directions, not as was done by some other Native Americans, by praying to the four directions. To the Cherokee, a “direction” was for geographical use, not to be prayed to!

In the Old Testament, Ezekiel witnessed Animism. He found twenty five men on the porch of the Temple in Jerusalem bowing to worship the sun. God said to Ezekiel, “Have you seen this, O son of man? Is it a trivial thing to the house of Judah to commit the abominations, which they commit here? For they have filled the land with violence; then they have returned to provoke Me to anger.” (Ezekiel 8:17, NKJV) The Romans and most other Native American tribes had gods that numbered in the thousands.

Three generations of Cherokees. On the left is Mary Layton, the matriarch of the Cherokee Nation of Mexico. In the center is her grandmother, Mary Price, who died in 1892. On the right is her grandson, Charles Rogers. Bud’s painting brings this family together on canvas in the same way that it exists in our hearts.

When we look as far back as the 1600s, there still existed one minority sect of the Cherokee people who declared there existed three entities above, who were always joined together in action and spirit, and were of the same mind. (Photo - Right)
A Mayan carving of people who had come from the East and who had but one God.

In the Bible we learn that God is triune, three entities in one supreme being the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When comparing the account of the beginning of time with the account the Cherokees gave, we discover that when God created the heavens and the earth, He was not alone.
      Let’s read Genesis 1:26 28 (NKJV):

Then God said “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

The human brain is of course divided into two major physical components; however, the human spirit is intangible yet powerful enough to change reality on this world. We are in three parts within one being also. According to the Cherokee beliefs, in the beginning the Three Faces of the One God Above employed seven days in the work of creation. The world was created at the first appearance of the autumn new moon, when the fruits were ripe. They believed the moon began a lunar year and was called the Great Moon from which the all of the feasts of the new moon would come. The Creator made man from red earth and blew into his mouth causing him to be a living soul. The first man was red. The ancient Cherokees believed that infants became living souls from the moment they breathed in their first air. The Creator then perceived that man was lonely, so he took one of the man’s ribs and made woman. The first woman, like the first man, was red. Thus the red people were the first real people, as their name Yu wi ya indicated.

    • Todd T Rubick==================================================================Cherokees believed that at first, serpents were not poisonous and neither were any roots or plants. ======== ====== ====== ====== ====== ====== ======= ======= ======= ====== ====== ====== ======= ======= ====== ===== Man would have lived forever, as man was to eat plants only, but in time he began to eat animals. Animals would kill humans by giving them disease and violence. Plants came to help men with medicine. Soon the earth was not large enough to support forever all who would be born. After this, the whole race was doomed to the physical death of the body.
Not long after creation, Ya ho waah (Jehovah), ordered men to build high mounds on which to erect structures of worship to offer gifts or sacrifices of food, to assemble for religious instruction, and to perform their religious dances. He commanded them not to despise the lame, the blind and the deformed. They were forbidden to laugh at the misfortunate, but to be kind to them and strangers. And if they owned any kind of creatures, they must be kind and treat them well.

The oldest parts of the Old Testament first four books existed within various people or tribes thousands of years before their adoption, interpretation, and rewriting by the priests of Israel in 500 B.C. These early stories belong not only to all Semitic people, including the Jewish people, but also to anyone else who wrote or spoke such stories. For example, the story of the deluge or flood of Noah is found worldwide in native peoples, including the Americas, as told by hundreds of tribes to their first European visitors.. To say that this is not their legacy is thievery by those thinking it is their divine right of being a chosen people to rewrite and claim all other indigenous tribal peoples’ cultural property. All people have a right to their god given property, life, land, and faith and thus the cultural property of their stories of faith concerning their relationship with God. Among Cherokees it is civilized to be our brothers keeper, certainly not the keeper of our brother’s cultural and religious inheritance. In the Bible we see a parallel to the account of the beginning of time by the Cherokee people, as can be seen in Genesis chapters 1-6:

Genesis 1:1 5 says,“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. ” NKJV

Genesis 1:26 31 says, “Then God said, ‘Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ ‘So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” “And God said ‘See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food’; and it was so. Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.”

Genesis 2:1 3 says, “Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.” NKJV

Genesis 2:18 22 says, “And the LORD God said, ‘It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper comparable to him’. Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call there. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name. So Adam gave names to all cattle, to the birds of the air, and to every beast of the field But for Adam there was not found a helper comparable to him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. Then the rib which the LORD God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.” NKJV

Genesis 3:1 7 says, “Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said ’You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?’ And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ’You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ‘Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.“ So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.” NKJV

Genesis 3:8 14 says, “And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, ‘Where are you?’So he said, ‘1 heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.’ And He said, ‘Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?’ Then the man said, ‘The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.’ And the LORD God said to the woman, ‘What is this you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent deceived me, and I ate.’NKJV. Deception and/or ignorance abound. Judge this and all such thoughts with both your heart and mind.”

Children were to be hardworking and obedient to their parents.

Among the Cherokee people there were seven clans or seven families that did not intermingle with one another. The clans were distinguished by the different color feathers fastened to the rims of their ears. Each clan was a descendant of one family and one bloodline, and was forbidden to intermarry. One myth says there were originally twelve tribes of Indians, but after awhile one of the tribes violated the law of Ye ho waah by intermarrying. Therefore the tribes were reduced to seven and were scattered north, south and west (once again, they were as far east on land as physically possible, showing that they came from the east into the Americas).

      Exodus 20:2 21 says,

I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me.

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me, but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments. You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain. Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it. Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the LORD your God is giving you. You shall not murder. You shall not commit adultery. You shall not steal. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s. Now all the people witnessed the thunderings, the lightning flashes, the sound of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood afar of Then they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die. And Moses said to the people, “Do not fear; for God has come to test you, and that His fear may be before you, so that you may not sin.” NKJV

The Uku taught that if the Cherokees were obedient, when they died, they would experience eternal life and dwell with Ye ho waah forever. However, if they were disobedient, they would be eternally miserable in a lake of fire. It is evident from the ancient teachings of the priests, the Cherokee people believed in a Heaven and a Hell.

Revelations 21:5 8 in the Bible says, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.” And He said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. Iwill give of the fountain of the water of life freely to him who thirsts. He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” NKJV

Payne reported of an old Cherokee named Raven who was 100 years old who told him that when he was a small boy, he use to hear the old men predict the destruction of the world after four generations. The Supreme Being would cause a storm to arise out of the east, which would rain itch until everything was covered with it. Showers of fire would follow, everything would be set ablaze and the whole world would be consumed.

The Apostle Peter in the Christian Bible also gives us a description of the end of time in (3:10 18),

Brit the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. Therefore, beloved looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless; and account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you, as also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand which untaught and unstable people twist to their own destruction, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures. You therefore, beloved since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked; but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen. NKJV

Chief John Ross, one of the most famous mixed - blood Cherokee Chiefs, he was 1/8 Cherokee.

One of the ancient stories tells of a certain exemplary Cherokee man who, after having fasted for seven days, went to the top of a high mountain during a thunderstorm and there he saw with his own eyes the thunder beings and the place where they came from.

From the beginning of time, God has always had a witness in the earth. God made His presence known to Abraham in order to make a covenant with him to have a witness in the earth of His Supreme Glory. Abraham was an idolater when God appeared to him to reveal His glory. By the grace of God Abraham turned away from vain idols to walk with God, the Creator of all things, which is also the Cherokee’s concept. The New Testament states that by faith Abraham believed and because of his obedience to the Great Supreme Being, God promised, “I will show you, I will make you and I will bless you” (Hebrews 11:18, NKJV). The Old Testament gives accounts of God appearing to Abraham again and again to build faith in his heart, to make a covenant with him and to prompt him to obedience to fulfill the promise even when it seemed impossible.

Another account to be noted from the Old Testament is when God appeared to Moses face to face in Exodus 33:11, “...the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” Moses also encountered God on a mountain top where he received the ten commandments for God’s people.

Anyone can sit down among a primitive tribe that has never heard of God or the teachings of Jesus Christ, and find that they know right from wrong. You can ask a man, “What do you do if another man tries to take your wife,” and he will answer, “I will attack him. It is wrong to take another man’s wife.” Missionaries have witnessed, even among the most primitive cultures on the face of the earth, people living in a “conscience dispensation,” which is when people feel that God is among them.

From the Scriptures in the Christian Bible, we also learn that men know God from conscience and creation but have refused to honor him. The greatest judgment God can inflict on us is to let us have our own way. As we can clearly see in Romans 1:20 26, we are called to consider the work of our Creator. Right before our very eyes we behold nothing more obvious than the creation of God’s wisdom and power. All of mankind is a witness to what God has done and is doing in the earth. Every human can see afar off the heavens in all its glory, the work of Omnipotence.

For since the creation of the world His (God) invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His (God’s) eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man and birds and four footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. (Romans 1:20.26,NKJV)

Scientists are still trying to figure out the production created by the very finger of God. The eternal power of the Godhead is clearly seen and understood by the things that are made. Every person who has not received divine revelation of Jesus Christ may see that God exists. There is no speech or voice of a preacher not heard today (Psalm 19:13). Creation is seen in all its glory, splendor, beauty and excellence; it cannot be denied that this is truly the work of God, the Author of all things.

Although one may not personally know God, surely we are witnesses to His power and perfection by what we see in all creation. Greatly should He be praised and magnified and be reverentially feared because He is the Giver of the breath of life. The Supreme Being of all creation has all power of heaven and earth; therefore in humility and reverence all mankind should adore and give honor to the Great Spirit, God. He can open the windows of heaven and cause rain to fall on the crops of the just and unjust. In the heat of the day He can call the clouds in to perform a canopy called ‘the spreading of the clouds’ to protect his people (Job36:24 33, NKJV).

Lucy Wahnenauhi stated, “The Cherokees believed in one God whom they called Oo n hlah nau hi, meaning ‘Maker of all things,’ and Cah luh luh ti a hi, ‘The One who lives above.’ They acknowledged God as their friend and believed He had unlimited power and was Creator of all things made.” Wahnenauhi also stated that the Cherokees also believed there was an Evil Spirit, whom they called Skee nah. They believed Skee nah was malicious in influence and the cause of all trouble, calamity and sickness. Many missionaries back then did not believe there was such a thing as an evil spirit, devil or universal spirit called Satan, nor was there any correspondence in Cherokee theology. However, Wahnenauhi derived her connotation from the Cherokee New Testament, which speaks of the Devil.

Satan had many names in the Christian Bible that ranged from evil spirit, the devil, lying spirit, serpent, and wicked one, to power of darkness. There are many accounts in the Bible of the devil causing sickness, disease, trouble and calamity. The Cherokee also attributed disease to the patient’s body having been tricked into illness by something bad existing in the patient’s mind or in his nutritional habits; once explained in this manner, the patient would understand and their body would correct the health imbalance. Correct arid clean nutrition and prevention were taught daily.

Many Mayan carvings suggest racial mixtures.

In John Payne’s writing of the Cherokee beliefs, he also included extensive duplications of the first five books of the Bible, which caused readers to conclude that early in the historic period the Cherokees began to weave the newly learned Biblical materials into the origins of their legends. Nevertheless, the ancient beliefs and stories vary slightly, perhaps because they were not rewritten so much, to some instances in the Christian Bible. Regardless of Payne’s study, the Cherokee people attributed their existence to the Creator. They built their religious belief upon foundations and pillars built by the express creations of God and not of men, and they were reserved as such.

The Cherokee people did hold on to the fragments of their beliefs for many centuries. The Chief Supreme Being believed in by the Cherokees of the eighteenth century was the same “Mysterious Being” or “Being Beyond Human Comprehension” (which would always be a mystery to man), (Ye ho waah), whom the more ancient Cherokees had said was both God and King, appearing sometimes on earth as a man.

Ye ho waah taught the first hymn called Yo wa to the first Cherokee priests or ministers, known as the office of the Uku. Over time the song was described as being part of the old language and was no longer understood. Some of the old language words were still employed in the song in the nineteenth century. Only those chosen by the Uku could perform the song after undergoing rigorous testing, which included abstinence from food and sex and the fulfilling of special observances of prayer, purification and vigils.

The Christian Bible warns, “Gather up the fragments that remain, so nothing is lost.” (John 6:12, NKJV)

Fragments represent the evidence of the awesome miracles that our Creator has performed on behalf of His people. They are the glorious things God has performed in our lives.

The Cherokees had a Sacred Ark that carried the sacred fires and other Holy things, which were the fragments of their religious beliefs - fragments that represented the everlasting bond between the creator and the Cherokee people.

During the time of Moses, it is recorded that ancient Israel had poor memory and often forgot about the great works of God and would not wait for His counsel. (Psalm 106:813, Psalm 78:38 42)

Like ancient Israel, over a period of time the Cherokees slowly began to forget the fragments of their ancient religious beliefs. There were many accounts and revisions to the Mortality Story. One could only speculate that, through time, the Cherokees’ memory became poor and much of their ancient beliefs were lost. Modifications to the stories over the years have lead to doubt and confusion. The Christian Bible says that God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33).

The Creator made it clear to the Cherokee people that changes or modifications of the ancient beliefs were only profitable if they were progressing and continuing in their beliefs. However, if the modifications were attempts to conform to popular belief, they would experience disastrous results in their religion and government.

Over time the Religious Festivals of the Cherokee people became obsolete. The festivals showed their devotion to the Creator and the keeping of His commandments. It was a time where they fasted, prayed, and gave thanksgiving offerings of the first fruits to the “Maker of all things”; a time of cleansing and purification from the old so Ye ho waah could bring in the new. The old fires were put out and new sacred fires were placed in every home. The new fires represented cleansing, rebuilding and lighting.

Ancient tradition also says that Ye ho waah commanded the people to rest from all work on the seventh day and to show their adoration for him by holding their hands entirely still while they rested with their palms open and upward on their knees. The people were to confine themselves to talk about the Supreme Being that dwells on high on the seventh day.

Most historians tend to deal with the political aspects of the Cherokee culture. The white men recognized that religion, or wanting to live good lives, rather than politics, was at the core of the ancient Cherokee life.

In time the fragments of the Cherokee ancient beliefs would be lost as the whites cunningly planned to pierce the Cherokee religion so erosion would set in. White men wanted to capitalize on the Indians. The Cherokees had become a grand and glorious people of influence and prosperity. They knew nothing about the outside world or what was going on in it, and they decided they wanted to learn what they could from the white men’s ways. What started out innocently, turned out to be a conversion to the whites’ manner of life. Soon the fragments of their ancient beliefs would be lost in the transformation of their culture.

Although the whites enjoyed trade with the Cherokees, conflicts over land and money would occur. Eventually the Cherokees became outnumbered and outgunned, and they did not have any other alternative but to accept what came their way, due to the fact that the old religion was practiced by only a forty percent minority; a larger consensus would have equaled power to resist negative changes. They became a people of uncertainty. In doubt and confusion, some of the clans began to let the whites guide them as trusting children. Some Cherokees did not permit their clans to marry outsiders. The full bloods began to be persuaded by the whites and mixed bloods, which caused the altering of their festival procedures, and more importantly the practical training of these procedures. For example, the green corn festival originally taught young men to publicly proclaim their work for and support of their mothers (remember, this was before social security or government support).

    • Todd T Rubick The mixed bloods began to out number the full bloods. As they increased in number, the power of the Cherokee religion declined. The mixed blood parents convinced the young Cherokees that the old ways, of which they themselves were ignorant, were heathen. Without even knowing that they were rejecting a legacy of direct contact with God, the children soon began to stray away from the ritual lifestyle, while the full blood held on to their personal convictions, even though diluted and fragmented. Ultimately, everything about the Cherokee people became so modified and confused, the old ways began to lose their appearance of having any effectiveness whatsoever.

In 1736, a Jesuit named Christian Priber spent 9 years with the Cherokee people. His mission was both political and religious. He gained great favor and influence with tribal leaders. Priber became an unofficial secretary to the principal headman. Nevertheless, he served both the church and French government. His primary goal was to disrupt tribal relations between the Cherokees and the English traders and colonist. Eventually he was captured and imprisoned by the English.

Later the Catholic Church made attempts to work as missionaries among the Cherokee people. Their efforts to convert and educate were unsuccessful until more contemporary times.

In 1740, Cherokees obtained their first horses and a trail was opened between Augusta, Georgia and the Cherokee Country. Twenty years later, the Cherokees possessed large herds of horses. By 1775, each Cherokee man owned anywhere from two to twelve mounts. They obtained cattle, hogs and domesticated bees. The Cherokees were already farming many European fruits, vegetables, and domesticated potatoes and trading for coffee.

In the late eighteenth century, the English brought over spinning wheels and looms, along with farming tools. Gradually the Cherokee people were becoming a part of the white man’s world.

To the east of the Cherokee settlements were the English, to the west were the French and to the south were the Spanish. All three competed for trade advantages and for every piece of land on which they could get their hands. Finally the cooperative trading efforts of the Cherokees became obsolete. Skins and textiles were no longer excepted as exchange for goods. The whites now had currency. Not long afterwards the economic system of the Indians collapsed.

      (Photo - Left)
Mr. Ridge was very typical of Cherokees with European admixture.

All wild game began to disappear as the whites grew in population and power. Even fishing became subject to strict restrictions set in motion by the whites. The Cherokees efforts to raise livestock became limited by regulations. The whites began to take charge of lumbering the forests, mining the land, excavating the ground for chemical interests, and taking charge of the water streams and lakes by building dams across the valley where the Cherokee homesteads had stood.

The white men’s government began changing as well. The clan tribal loyalty was compromised by the demands of a newly formed republican government. The French and the English became rivals. Immediately both sides acted to pull the Cherokees apart. Although the French were diplomatic, the English were able to supply guns and ammunitions, as well as other militant resources the Cherokees desired.

In the mid 1700s, the French were losing control to the British and the Cherokee leaders of Virginia, North Carolina and Georgia were being pitted against one another. Some Cherokees did discern what was happening and sought to turn the tables on the foreigners.

In the last half of the eighteenth century, the whites began a rivalry for tribal control between the leaders of the towns of great Tellico and Chota. The Cherokees were kept in a constant state of turmoil and their ways of life became forever interrupted by the ways of the new world.

Throughout the late eighteenth century, tribal leader Attakullakulla controlled tribal policy by learning the import ways of the white colonization and began guiding tribal policy away from the old ways of Cherokee life. He encouraged the Cherokees to cooperate more closely with the white settlers. During Attakullakulla tribal reign, farming replaced hunting as the dominant economic factor. The wars between tribes stopped. He also bargained for colonial forts and military garrisons to protect the Cherokees from warring neighbors. None of Attakullakulla efforts resolved the Cherokees problems. Their settlements were always in the way of relentless white settlers, which resulted in waves of wars from 1756 to 1794. Much of the Cherokee settlements were annihilated.
    • Todd T Rubick Tame Doe, the sister of Attakullakulla, gave birth to a daughter named Nancy. Nancy grew up and married the noted war leader Kingfisher of the Deer Clan. She was at his side in 1755 when he was killed by the Creek warriors at the battle of Taliwa. Nancy immediately picked up his weapons and gathered the Cherokee warriors to an overwhelming victory. Chota chose her to fulfill the vacant position of a Beloved Woman.

The Cherokees believe that the Supreme Beings spoke to the people through Beloved Women. They were also given the power and authority to make decisions on what to do with prisoners of war.

Nancy also headed up an influential women’s council that consisted of a representative from each Cherokee Clan, and she sat as a voting member of the council of the Chiefs. Later she married a white leader named Bryant Ward, but after 10 years of marriage, he returned to his white wife and children in South Carolina.

Numerous settlements had been made in Cherokee land, which was a direct violation of the royal decree of England. When the Revolutionary War broke out the Cherokees sided with the English They attacked the frontier settlements of Virginia, the Carolinas and Georgia. Seven hundred warriors attacked the settlers of Watuga.

Chief Rogers performs the peace pipe ceremony with the noble governor of Coahuila, Sr. Enrique Martinez y Martinez.

Nancy Ward helped Isaac Thomas and two other white men escape from Chota to warn the Watuga area. Soon after she obtained the reputation of being a friend of the settlers.

In 1776, Colonel William Christian led two thousand troops in a horrific raid against the Cherokee towns. Out of respect to Nancy Ward, Chota was spared. In 1780, the Cherokees again prepared an attack on the Watuga settlements while the men were away. Nancy Ward once again warned the whites, but when the soldiers returned from King’s Mountain and learned of the threat, they set out to teach the Cherokees a lesson they would never forget.

Despite the pleas of Nancy Ward for mercy and friendship, Chota was destroyed along with other Cherokee towns. Afterwards, she and her family were placed into protective custody. Once Nancy was released, she returned to help rebuild Chota. On July 20, 1781, she was the featured speaker for the Cherokees that brought about a peace treaty between the Watugans. She continued her mission to make dramatic pleas for peace between the Indians and the whites. After the war years ended, Nancy Ward settled in Chota, which was no longer the Capital of the nation, but was still a city of refuge. For years she took orphans into her home. Nancy died in 1822 as a woman of honor among the Cherokee and white history.

From 1794 to 1836, the Cherokees fled to hill country to build a thriving community that was run by mixed bloods. Change after change kept coming to the tribe as a whole that eventually shook their traditional faith and beliefs.

In confusion and doubt the Cherokees became more open and responsive to the missionary efforts of the Moravian, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist and Quaker Churches. During the next thirty years, the Cherokee nation underwent many changes and moved their tribe closer to the whites to become more a part of their civilization. They began to learn the ways of the white men. The Cherokees wanted to learn to read and write. The full bloods did not welcome the change and considered it bad.

The Presbyterian Church established a mission in Hiawassee, Tennessee in 1803. Their school opened in 1804 with twenty to thirty Cherokees in attendance. The students learned the Bible and how to pray, and to read, spell and write. Due to the cultural differences and the fact the students could not speak English, the first conversion did not take place until 1810.

Domestic and religious changes, intermarriage, loss of confidence, whiskey, contributions of the mixed bloods and the mission schools all took their toil on the Cherokees. They began to wear the white men’s clothes and adapt to their lifestyle. The Cherokees had their own cabins and all other amenities just like the white settlers.

Chief Jahtlohi Rogers asks the one Creator for blessings upon the Nation of Mexico & it’s families. Pictured are 3 Mexican Governors of Coahuila (our home state), Tamaulipas, and Nueva Leon.

The Green Corn Festivals had now become corrupted with guns and whiskey. The priests became known as conjurers, which caused this once great ancient religion to struggle and waver in what they once believed.

Payne believed the changes were caused by the influx of pagan worshipers. It was a sure sign these were a people in exodus because of the ways of foreigners, both Native American and European. Sickness and tormenting evil spirits now haunted the Indians. The new conjurers were unsuccessful in helping the people spiritually. What once were sacred holy festivals were now tainted with new customs and beliefs from many religious and pagan beliefs.

Before 1750, the Cherokees had a core group of families from which came the Cherokee leaders. These families would also supply the ministers or priests of the Cherokee religion. This system is found in Semitic tribes and some other Native American tribes (Caddo, for example). The thinking or reasoning was that the youths of these families were trained from an early age because the amount of training was considerable by any standards of modern professions; leading families were responsible for training leaders. But as the old religion slipped away, and these families acted in irresponsible, oppressive, and self serving ways, things fell apart; the last trained Uku to come from a “leading family tradition” surrendered his position and it never existed again. However, these truths live on, smoldering, perhaps someday to flame again. Somewhere in time, these Cherokee Native Americans integrated with or were themselves originally a people in exodus; either way, each group became the other. All Cherokees are their descendants.

Cherokees are Israelites. If you look at the 5 Civilized Tribes in Oklahoma count them as Israelites. North American Sun Kings pretty much documents. It's good to see you Todd. GOD BLESS

I have known for many years now. The Cherokees worship YHWH. Of course, we know GOD'S name is YHVH. But, it seems that over time the Cherokee/Israelites have distorted HIS Name. Perhaps out of fear of using the True Name. You are always welcome my friend. GOD BLESS

Blood sacrifices would be required if they worship knowingly or obeyed the demand of the demons they think they are manipulating. Satan likes that because it's the unpardonable sin in the Spirit - to insult the blood God has already given us - and the unpardonable sin on earth is murder. The NWO is already here on paper and they have a plan to unleash it on us and they are following that plan every day.

Then kill everyone who had a different idea that was not according to their WORLDLY MAN-MADE TRADITIONS. Then, rule the world and kill more innocent and spirit-filled people than anyone else in history - THAT MAKES THEM MURDERERS! Now, they are more civilized because they have competition, but when they were the ONLY religion, they massacred and martyred many of God's children. EVEN TODAY THE VATICAN OWNS MOST EVERYTHING. Have you not seen their connection to JP Morgan? The laws in this country that come from ROME. I've been to the Vatican, they have their own currency, their own postage, they are their own country - a corporation that runs the world (with other false corporations). Barnes' Notes on the Bible

Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things - He did not mean by this that Elijah was yet to come, for he tells them immediately Matthew 17:12 that he had come; but he meant to affirm that it was a true doctrine which the scribes taught, that Elijah would appear before the coming of the Messiah. To "restore" means to put into the former situation. See Matthew 12:13. Hence, it means to heal, to correct, to put in proper order. Here it means that Elijah would put things in a proper state; he would be the instrument of reforming the people, or of restoring them, in some measure, to proper notions about the Messiah and preparing them for his coming. Before the coming of John their views were erroneous, their expectations were worldly, and their conduct were exceedingly depraved. He corrected many of their notions about the Messiah (see Matthew 3), and he was the instrument of an extensive reformation, and thus restored them, in some degree, to correct views of their own system and of the Messiah, and to a preparation for his advent.

Clarke's Commentary on the Bible

Elias - shall first come, and restore all things - Or will reform, αποκαταστησει; this word our Lord quotes from the Septuagint; who render the Hebrew והשוב לב אבות על בנים vehesheb leb aboth al banim, he will cause the heart of the fathers to turn to the children, by, ος αποκαταστησει καρδιαν πατρος προς υιον, who will convert, or restore, the heart of the father to the son. We are not therefore to understand the version of the Septuagint quoted by our Lord in any other sense than the Hebrew will allow. No fanciful restoration of all men, devils and damned spirits, is spoken of as either being done, or begun, by the ministry of John; but merely that he should preach a doctrine tending to universal reformation of manners, and should be greatly successful: see Matthew 3:1-7, and especially Luke 3:3-15, where we find that a general reformation had taken place,

1. among the common people;

2. among the tax-gatherers; and

3. among the soldiers.

And as John announced the coming Christ, who was to baptize with the Holy Ghost, i.e. to enlighten, change, and purify the heart, that the reform might be complete, both outward and inward, he may be said, in the strictest sense of the word, to have fulfilled the prophecy: and that he was the Elijah mentioned by Malachi, the words of Gabriel to the virgin Mary prove; Luke 1:17. And he (John) shall go before him (Christ) in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, etc.; and that his ministry was powerfully effectual for this purpose, we have already seen.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

And Jesus answered and said unto them,.... By way of concession,

Elias truly shall first come: this is indeed a tenet of the Scribes, and it is also certain, that there is a prophecy in Malachi 4:5 of the coming of Elias; of one that goes under that name, not of Elias the Tishbite, in person, but of one that was to come in his power and spirit,

and restore all things. The Syriac and Persic versions render it, "shall perfect, or complete all things", that are prophesied of him; and shall put a period to the law and the prophets, and close the Mosaic economy, and direct persons to Christ; in whom are the perfection of the law, and the fulfilling of the prophets. The Arabic version reads it, "he shall teach you all things"; the whole of the Gospel being to be reduced to these two heads, repentance towards God, and faith in Christ; both which were taught by the true Elias: but the truest sense of the phrase is to be learned out of Malachi 4:6. "He shall restore, he shall turn all things, the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers"; and as this is explained inLuke 1:17 "he shall turn the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, and make ready a people prepared for the Lord": which is other, and better sort of work, than what the Jews assign to their Elias, whom they expect, and whom they make to be a restorer of all things, in their way: they often speak of his purifying (q) of things, or pronouncing things pure, that were defiled; and among others, that he will purify bastards, and "restore them" to the congregation of the Lord (r). Though Maimonides (s) denies, that when he comes he will pronounce defiled that which is pure, or pronounce pure, that which is defiled. They pretend (t), that he is now employed, and very busy, in writing everything that is done in every age; so that when he comes, he will be able to give an account of everything: and nothing is more common with them, than to say concerning any matter, that there is any doubt or difficulty about it (u), , "let it be left till Elias comes".

Vincent's Word Studies

Elijah cometh first. An abstract statement expressing the fact that Elijah's coming precedes in time the coming of the Messiah. It is a point of Jewish chronology; just as a teacher of history might say to his pupils, "The Saxons and Danes precede the Normans in England." Elijah had already come in the person of John the Baptist.

Geneva Study Bible

And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.

Wesley's Notes

17:11 Regulate all things - In order to the coming of Christ.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

17:1-13 Now the disciples beheld somewhat of Christ's glory, as of the only begotten of the Father. It was intended to support their faith, when they would have to witness his crucifixion; and would give them an idea of the glory prepared for them, when changed by his power and made like him. The apostles were overcome by the glorious sight. Peter thought that it was most desirable to continue there, and to go no more down to meet the sufferings of which he was so unwilling to hear. In this he knew not what he said. We are wrong, if we look for a heaven here upon earth. Whatever tabernacles we propose to make for ourselves in this world, we must always remember to ask Christ's leave. That sacrifice was not yet offered, without which the souls of sinful men could not have been saved; and important services were to be done by Peter and his brethren. While Peter spoke, a bright cloud overshadowed them, an emblem of the Divine presence and glory. Ever since man sinned, and heard God's voice in the garden, unusual appearances of God have been terrible to man. They fell prostrate to the earth, till Jesus encouraged them; when looking round, they beheld only their Lord as they commonly saw him. We must pass through varied experiences in our way to glory; and when we return to the world after an ordinance, it must be our care to take Christ with us, and then it may be our comfort that he is with us.

The Return of Elijah
from Heaven Prophecy
by Joel Smith (opinions on Elijah)

Two thousand years ago the Jewish people were expecting to see
Elijah literally return from heaven to announce the appearance of the Messiah.

The Jewish people of 2000 years ago were expecting to see the Old Testament Prophet Elijah literally, physically descend from heaven. They had been promised that this was going to happen by the Old Testament Prophet Malachi. This prophecy reads:

"For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and... all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch... And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do [this], saith the LORD of hosts.... Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD" -Malachi 4:1-5

According to the Old Testament book of II Kings, Elijah the Prophet had ascended "into heaven" in a "chariot of fire." (see: chapter 2) This spectacular event supposedly happened about 850 years before Christ. Later, in about 450 BC, Malachi prophesied that this same Elijah, who had ascended into heaven, was also going to return from heaven to herald the coming of the Messiah... the Christ.

As a brief comment on terms used here, please note that the word "Messiah" has the same meaning as the word "Christ". The word Messiah is Hebrew and is translated as Anointed. The word Christ is Greek and is also translated as Anointed. They are the same word from two different languages.

Elijah who had ascended "into heaven" in a "chariot of fire" was going to return from heaven to announce the coming of the Messiah... the Christ.

The reason why the return of Elijah prophecy was so important is that it became one of the primary reasons why the Jewish people rejected Jesus' claim to be the Messiah. The Jewish religious leaders of two thousand years ago knew that Elijah was going to return before the Christ was going to come. So, they concluded, that Jesus or anyone else who claimed to be the Messiah before Elijah visibly returned from heaven had to be an impostor.

The story of how the 'return of Elijah' prophecy was actually fulfilled can be found in two separate places in the New Testament. It can also be found in a 1900 year old, non-Biblical, Christian book that provides us with what is probably the most graphic example illustrating the importance of this prophecy.

Justin Martyr was a very prominent Christian at a time when Christianity was still in its infancy. In "Eerdman's Handbook to the History of Christianity" Justin Martyr is described as "the most notable of the second century [Christian] apologists." (p. 108)

Justin Martyr lived approximately 100 AD. He wrote a book titled The Dialogue with Trypho the Jew. This book is a record of a discussion between Justin Martyr and Trypho- a Jewish rabbi. This "dialogue" begins with Justin telling the rabbi that he believes that Jesus was the long awaited Messiah. The following excerpt contains this rabbi's response.

It reads:

"When I (Justin) had said this, [the students who were with the rabbi] laughed; but he smiling, says, 'I approve of your other remarks, and admire the eagerness with which you study divine things; but it were better for you abide in the philosophy of Plato..."

Before Justin became a Christian he was a follower of the Greek philosophers and he still wore the characteristic flowing robes of a Roman philosopher. The quote continues:

"...It were better for you abide in the philosophy of Plato rather than be deceived by false words, and follow the opinions of people of no reputation... for when you have forsaken God, and reposed confidence in man, what safety still awaits you?"

Now, here's the important part:

"...But Christ- if he has indeed been born, and exists anywhere... has no power until Elijah comes to anoint him, and make him manifest to all. And you, having accepted a groundless report, invent a Christ for yourselves, and for his sake are inconsiderately perishing.-Ante Nicene Fathers, Vol. 1, p. 198.

In this one short passage, this rabbi reveals exactly what the Jewish religious leaders and the Jewish people of two thousand years ago were expecting to see before the Messiah appeared. Trypho knew that Jesus could not possibly have been the Messiah because he knew from the unmistakable text of the 'return of Elijah' prophecy that anyone who claimed to be the Christ before Elijah the Prophet had visibly returned from heaven would have to be a false Prophet.

This prophecy was one of the primary reasons why the Jewish people rejected Jesus' claims to be the Messiah. No one had seen Elijah return from heaven yet... so how could Jesus possibly have been the Messiah?

Two thousand years ago, the Jewish people were expecting to see Elijah literally, physically descend from heaven... possibly in the exact same "chariot of fire" that he had used to ascend "into heaven." Furthermore, they also expected that soon after Elijah's return, the Messiah was going to appear. And they knew that when the Messiah came, he not only was going to free them from Roman domination, but he also was going to exalt Israel over all the nations of the earth. The Jewish people had good reason to believe these things. These expectations are derived from explicit statements made in the Bible. Jesus explains how these prophecies were actually fulfilled.

According to the Old Testament account, about 850 BC Elijah the Prophet ascended "into heaven." (see: II Kings 2) Then, about four hundred years later (in about 450 BC) the Prophet Malachi promised that Elijah will return from heaven before the Christ appears.

Malachi's prophecy reads:

"try me in this, says the Lord of Hosts: shall I not open for you the floodgates of heaven, to pour down a blessing upon you without measure... Lo, I will send you Elia (Elijah), the prophet before the day of the Lord comes, the great and terrible day."-Malachi 3:10-24 (CATHOLIC DOUAY BIBLE)

The Jewish religious leaders of Jesus' day were well aware of the 'return of Elijah' prophecy. At one time the rabbis had asked Jesus' disciples to explain how Jesus could possibly have been the Messiah when it was obvious that Elijah had not returned from heaven yet.

The Apostles couldn't answer this question, so they asked Jesus:

"Why do the Jewish leaders insist Elijah must return before the Messiah comes?"
Jesus answered by first affirming that this question was valid and that this prophecy indeed was true. He said:
"They are right. Elijah must come and set everything in order..."
But then, to everyone's surprise, Jesus explained:
"In fact, he [Elijah] already has come, but he wasn't recognized, and was badly mistreated by many... Then the disciples realized he was speaking of John the Baptist."-Matthew 17:10-13 (LIVING BIBLE-CATHOLIC EDITION) (this account can also be found in: Mark 9:11-13)

Clearly, Jesus taught that this was a true prophecy. Jesus agreed that Elijah indeed "must return before the Messiah comes." But then, to the surprise to everyone there, Jesus claimed that John the Baptist was the fulfillment of this prophecy.

Jesus' explanation was not well received by the Jewish religious leaders. The rabbis considered them selves to be the greatest experts of Judaism in the entire world. They knew what their prophecies said and they certainly thought they knew what was going to happen when the Messiah finally did appear. As far as they could see none of these prophecies had been fulfilled, Elijah had not returned and there certainly was no visible evidence that the Messiah had come. Nothing had changed. Everything was just as it always had been.

How, they wondered, could John possibly have been the return of Elijah? Malachi didn't say anything about Elijah's return being in some mysterious, unrecognizable way. Neither does he say that some other man is going to be born hundreds of years later and that this man somehow was going to be the return of Elijah. Instead, Malachi clearly says that Elijah himself was going to return. That's not a difficult concept to visualize. Elijah ascended into heaven in a chariot of fire. And he's going to come back. Visibly. Physically. In the flesh. Or so they thought.

The rabbis did not believe Jesus' explanation that John the Baptist was the return of Elijah. And why should they? They knew that Elijah was supposed to visibly return from heaven and, as the elect of Judaism, it's very likely that they would have expected to be among the very first to welcome him when he actually did return. After all, how could they possibly miss anything as obvious as a Prophet of God floating down from out of the sky in a chariot of fire?

Malachi's prophecy explicitly says that Elijah himself was going to return... not some other man. Instead of Elijah personally returning from heaven, what the rabbis actually got was John... a dirty looking fellow, who wore a leather loincloth, a camel's hair robe and who ate locusts for lunch. John the Baptist actually ate grasshoppers! John did not fit any picture that the rabbis might have had of what the spectacular second coming of Elijah was going to be like. John the Baptist didn't come floating down from heaven. Instead, he came into the world in the same way as everyone else. John had a mother. He had a father. John had been born as a child and he had grown up just like everyone else. On the other hand, Elijah had been born eight hundred and fifty years before John. John was not named Elijah. John had a different body, a different personality, different teachings and a different purpose.

The rabbis might have also pointed out that even John himself had said that he was not Elijah. At one point, early in his ministry, John the Baptist was asked whether he was Elijah. He answered that he was not. (see John 1:21)

Nothing about John would indicate that he was Elijah. Elijah had physically ascended "into heaven" in a "chariot of fire." And, everyone believed that the same Elijah who had disappeared into heaven was himself, personally going to return... possibly even in the same "chariot of fire" that he had used when he ascended up into heaven.

In what way could John the Baptist have been the return of Elijah? Certainly not literally. This apparent contradiction can be resolved by a statement made at the beginning of the Gospel of Luke where it explains that John went

"on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah." -Luke 1:17 (KJV)

Elijah had returned from heaven in the "spirit". John went "on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah."-Luke 1:17 (KJV) Viewed this way, both John and Jesus were right. The man named Elijah who had lived eight hundred years earlier had not literally, physically returned from heaven in the flesh as just about everyone expected. Instead, the fulfillment of the 'return of Elijah from heaven' prophecy had nothing to do with Elijah's physical body. It was the return of the same "spirit and power" of God that had animated Elijah eight hundred years earlier that had returned to also animate John the Baptist. The reality of Elijah's return was the appearance of yet another totally separate and distinct Prophet of God. (Yes, Jesus did refer to John as a Prophet.) This is the true meaning of "the return."

The same is also true with the rest of Malachi's prophecy which clearly states that Elijah's and the Messiah's enemies would be totally burned up. Malachi wrote that their opponents

"shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up... it shall leave them neither root nor branch... ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet..."

In what way did Jesus or John burn up anyone like "chaff" "with unquenchable fire" to the extent that they were "ashes under the soles of [their] feet..."? Clearly these prophecies too were not fulfilled in any kind of literal, physical way. However, like the unexpected fulfillment of the 'return of Elijah prophecy', these prophecies were again fulfilled in a non-literal, spiritual manner. John the Baptist, speaking of Jesus, said:

"I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and [with] fire: Whose fan [is] in his hand, and he will thoroughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."-Matthew 1:11

Malachi said that the Christ's enemies "shall be stubble (chaff): and the day that cometh shall burn them up... ." And here John the Baptist said that Jesus "will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire."

None of these prophecies were fulfilled in any kind of literal, physical, visible way. The return of Elijah prophecy truly had been fulfilled unexpectedly, in a way that people could not see and in a way that could not be objectively verified. This was not the way that the rabbis were expecting these prophecies to be fulfilled and this certainly was not an explanation that they were willing to accept. Is it any wonder that these Jewish priests found it impossible to even seriously consider the possibility that John the Baptist was the return of Elijah?

Even today, two thousand years later, the Jewish religious experts still await the second coming of Elijah. And every year at the Passover meal, Jewish mothers, in a time honored tradition, still set an extra place at the table for Elijah hoping that this will be the year when he finally returns to join them.

One day as Jesus was speaking to his disciples (along with a group of other people) he was heard to say:

"I have come down from heaven..."

A number of rabbis were present in the crowd and when they heard Jesus claim that he had come down from heaven, they "began to grumble about him" and they asked

"Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know?' How can he now say, "I came down from heaven?"

Good question. The rabbis had known his mother and his father. They knew that he had been born as a child just like everyone else. Some of them might even have known him as a young boy and might have watched him grow up over the years. How could Jesus possibly have come "down from heaven"?

When his disciples heard Jesus claim that he had come "down from heaven" they too were extremely skeptical. They said

"This is a hard teaching. Who can accept it?" And then this passage says that "From this time many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him."-John 6:41,60,66 (NIV)

Most people know that Jesus had twelve Apostles. But, most people don't know that Jesus also had either 70 or 72 disciples (depending on which early manuscript you accept). It was these other disciples who abandoned him. These were the ones who "turned back and no longer followed him."

Apparently, both the antagonistic Jewish religious leaders and Jesus' own beloved disciples rejected his statement that he had come down from heaven because they thought that he was speaking literally. And from what they knew of Jesus' life... they knew that this was not very realistic.

The disciples didn't have the insight to see what Jesus was really saying. As Jesus stood there watching his disciples walk away, knowing that they were not going to come back, he proceeded to explain this "mystery" of His coming down from heaven. Jesus said:

"The Spirit (original Greek: PNEUMA) gives life, the flesh (Greek: SARX) counts for nothing: The words I have spoken to you are spirit (Greek: PNEUMA) and they are life."-John 6:63 (NIV)

"The words I have spoken to you are spirit..." Jesus apparently was trying to explain that when he said such startling things as "I came down from heaven", he was not speaking of his physical, fleshly body coming down from heaven and that his "words" should not be understood in their outer literal sense. Instead, Jesus was trying to tell us that he was speaking of non-fleshly, spiritual realities. It was the "Spirit" of God which dwelled in him that had descended from heaven... not his physical body. The same thing was true of John the Baptist. Jesus said that John too had come down from heaven.

Have people today learned anything from these important lessons from the past? Two thousand years ago people were expecting to see a spectacular, supernatural event which no one could mistake or misinterpret. What they actually got was the appearance of an entirely new Prophet... one who appeared with the same "spirit and power" of God which had, in centuries past, also descended upon Elijah.

Two thousand years ago, the Jewish people were expecting to see the visible return of a man from heaven who would burn up his enemies like chaff. Today we find that most Christians are also expecting to see the visible return of a man from heaven who is also going to burn up his enemies. What's the difference between then and now? Is the Bible consistent? Yes. Does God change? No. Is there a lesson to be learned here that most people haven't grasped yet?

God's principle governing how a prophet returns from heaven has been clearly explained- twice. both Jesus and Elijah came down from heaven... although not in the way that most people expected. Jesus' coming down from heaven the first time he appeared was not a fleshly occurrence. Neither was John's.

According to Jesus, this prophecy concerning the return of Elijah from heaven was not fulfilled literally... in a way that most people could easily identify. Instead, it was fulfilled in a way that most people were not prepared to recognize. Elijah did return. But, it was his "spirit and power" which had returned... and not his fleshly body.

This is the hidden, true meaning of the return of the Prophets. In all of recorded history, not one of God's Messengers, has ever literally, visibly come down from heaven in the flesh. This inner reality of return has been clearly explained in the Baha'i writings:

"a return is indeed referred to in the Holy Scriptures, but by this is meant the return of the qualities, conditions, effects, perfections, and inner realities of the lights which recur in every dispensation. The reference is not to specific, individual souls and identities." -Selections from the Writings of `Abdu'l-Baha, page 183

Another place in the Baha'i Writings we can read:

"In the Divine Scriptures and Holy Books "return" is spoken of, but the ignorant have not understood the meaning... For what the divine Prophets meant by "return" is not the return of the essence, but that of the qualities; it is not the return of the Manifestation, but that of the perfections. In the Gospel it says that John, the son of Zacharias, is Elias (Elijah). These words do not mean the return of the rational soul and personality of Elias in the body of John, but rather that the perfections and qualities of Elias were manifested and appeared in John."-Some Answered Questions by Abdu'l-Baha, page 288

Ask yourself... if you had lived 2000 years ago do you think that you would have been one of the few who had the insight to recognize John the Baptist as the fulfillment of the 'return of Elijah' prophecy? Chances are, like the disciples of Jesus, you would not have understood how this prophecy had been fulfilled until after it had been explained to you.

Why is the example of the 'return of Elijah' prophecy important? Today we have the exact same circumstances that we had two thousand years ago. Today most Christians are expecting to see Jesus Christ literally, visibly return from heaven. Baha'u'llah, the Prophet founder of the Baha'i Faith, unmistakably claims to be the fulfillment of the 'return of Christ from heaven' prophecies. Is Baha'u'llah truly the Promised One? Has history repeated itself? Did Baha'u'llah come down from heaven? Yes! In exactly the same way that John the Baptist and Jesus came down from heaven two thousand years ago.

or is history repeating itself?

  • The Hour of Temptation by Shepherds Chapel Part 1 Alright good day to you welcome to the Shepherd’s Chapel, hey welcome to this family bible study hour. There you got it right on the screen “The Hour of Temptation”. We’re going to talk on that subject. It is an hour, and you know what temptation is. So, it is, if you would, that time allotted that people will be tempted. That is exactly what it means and that’s exactly what it says. Tempted by whom? Well the false messiah which is quite contrary to what most people teach concerning the very last hour. We’re going to go into that hour and we’re going to understand, if we may, how you escape that hour. I would like to lay this groundwork if I may; I’m hustling for an analogy that I might use. One can be deceived a little bit and in thinking, “Hey that is a good pastime”, or something like that. Or possible you may like some particular food that you eat and it’s really tempting to you and then you realize that it is really bad for you. And if it ever makes you sick just one time, you don’t find it tempting any longer. In fact you sort of abhor it and steer away from it. So the true secret to escaping the hour of temptation is naturally, having Christ and our Father’s blessings. But also, it is knowing who is doing the tempting and then you won’t find him tempting at all. It is that temptation, not a temptation of the world, which is bad in and of itself, but a temptation during that gathering of the end times as Christ would warn in Mark 13. He didn’t say maybe that the false messiah would come. He said that he would come. And he would come himself before Christ would return, and before there was any gathering out. And that is simple enough to where a child could understand but it is not taught.

So therefore, let’s pick up on the terminology of “The Hour”. It’s used many times in our Father’s word, The Hour of Temptation. Let’s ask a word of wisdom and let’s go to our Father’s word and let’s take one or two of these places where it is mentioned and affix the subject matter and the object so that way it isn’t just words that I might speak, but it is the word of God that speaks.

You are all familiar with the Book of Revelation in chapters 2 and 3 which address the 7 churches and who those 7 churches are and that they are types of churches you will find even unto this day. And naturally, where the hour of temptation is utilized is in that letter that was written, in the subject matter to the church of Philadelphia, the prophecy. You’re familiar with that church in that it was one of the churches that Christ found nothing wrong with. As well, He found nothing wrong in the church of Smyrna. If your church does not teach what was taught at the church of Philadelphia or Smyrna then really, your church is not teaching what pleases our Father. In other words because they are the only two churches he found nothing wrong with out of the 7, He insists that anyone with a little bit of intelligence should know and understand and be saying to themselves, “I’ve got to have that information. I’ve got to understand it.” So with that thought in mind, let’s go to the 3rd chapter in Revelation and let’s pick it up with verse 8 concerning Philadelphia which you will find that identified in verse 7. Verse 8, and it reads:

Rev 3:8 I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door,

In other words with the works of that church and what it teaches you have an open door that allows you to see into the word of God with understanding. Not just to read it and have it confuse you, but to read it and then understand what you have read.

and no man can shut it:

No man can deceive you or shut the door of your mind to what is fact and what is truth.

for thou hast a little strength,

In other words within your own self with Him you have a lot of strength.

    and hast kept my word,

What is it that they have kept? They have “kept my word” being the word of God. Beloved it is the most important thing in your life today for longevity. That is to say for the eternity, quite frankly. And that is, you don’t keep man’s word or some organizations word with the subject even being two churches, but God’s word; all of His word.

and hast not denied my name.

Now name is important in this and also because it is His name that will be dropped at the Great Apostasy. Oh they will use the name “YHVH’s savior” in as much as that’s what the name Jesus means or Yeshua, but they will affix it to the wrong party because of the deception. Why? Because of the information that follows in the next verse. They don’t have it. Listen to it:

    Rev 3:9 Behold,

Or “Look here”, or “Look very closely”.

I will make them of the synagogue of Satan,

Who are we talking about? Synagogue simply means satan’s own church. After antichrist appears on this earth it will be established. Though by this name it is repulsive, but when a person is deceived and they see this one, the most beautiful of all the beings that God created in a sense, other than his own personage, then we see the deception for his coming. Why is he called the false Christ, the spurious messiah? Because he pretends to be Christ. Is that so difficult to understand? Of course it isn’t. He pretends to be Christ and he comes and establishes his temple of the end times. Paul puts it very adequately when in chapter 2 of Thessalonians, he calls it the temple of God, he sits in the temple of God claiming to be God. That’s exactly what he will do. Nothing difficult to understand. Many people wonder, “Well, who is this one?” Well, you just read it, satan. By whatever name you wish to call him. Son of perdition. There’s only one.

    which say they are Jews,

His children claim to be of Judah, is what it’s saying, called “Ioudaios” in the Greek. And it causes a great deal of consternation for our brother Judah, because they are Kenites, that is to say that bad part of the fig tree.

    and are not, but do lie;

They are not of Judah and they do lie. That is to say the Kenites.

behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.

Now that is not to say that the Kenite is going to worship you, but as it is written, on the first day of the millennium, and we’re about to go to that last hour here in a moment, you will be at the feet of Christ. Every knee shall bow to Him INCLUDING the Kenite. Why? Well, because they are going to worship Him when they see satan placed in the abyss for a period of 1000 years for the millennium. And they will know that Christ is all-powerful and in awe they will bow to the King of Kings. Yes, even they… Will some of them be saved? I think so. They will have that right. God is fair and He loves every soul that He created and He is long suffering, with the exception of those such as Esau that He would hate. And that is well written of in Romans chapter 9. Now why did we come here? Because here, we see the open door of the truth. And your church either teaches what we just covered in that 9th verse; for also the church of Smyrna in chapter 2 verse 9 makes the same statement. Those 2 churches have that one thing in common and that is that they have the Key of David, which is to say, they had an open door into the scripture and they could understand the migrations of the peoples and understand God’s plan of salvation and the Great Deception of the end times. Now, let’s read on, verse 10:

Rev 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience,

Not accepted someone else’s but have kept the word of God which is to say this word and His patience. Do you not remember why this is written from 2nd Peter chapter 3 along about verse 7 or 8 that God is long suffering? Meaning He has all kinds of patience and it is His hope that all will repentance. Remember He is patient.

I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon

    Upon who?

    I repeat:

all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

Now I realize that many teach, “Well you don’t have to know this book of Revelation cause you’re going to be gone”, well you’re just NOT. The absolute subject here is the hour of temptation, which is Christ’s “so-called” return to the gathering together with those that He loves. In other words, God has the ability to allow you to escape the hour of temptation. Why? Because it won’t be tempting to you. It will be an abomination. It will be the desolation of that abomination spoken of by Daniel the prophet. Why? Because that book is open to your mind and you can see it and understand the deception that will be prevalent in this earth age at that time. And you don’t find it tempting. And more so God will allow those to escape it and will even be utilizing or using the servants that He has called out to see that truth and to bring forth that testimony which we’ll be covering in the next segment. The next lecture following this one, we’ll go into that a little stronger if we may. Well, how do we know that’s the end times? How do we know that’s the hour of temptation? Because it is referred to over and over with everything in context in subject in order to that end.

We’re going to go over to 2nd Peter for just a moment as a thought just struck me here. We’re going there… 2nd Peter… and we’re going to talk about the end times just a little bit if we may, and what would be transpiring there at that time. Chapter 2, in 2nd Peter, and verse 1:

2 Peter 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even

Now you listen to me. Listen to the word

as there shall be false teachers among you,

    That means you today.

who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.

Some might say, “Well No Christian is going to deny the Christ” Well if you put somebody in his place… if you think you’re going to fly away and all of the sudden pretty boy shows up on the scene performing miracles which he is able to do in the sight of men, and he will be saying the very things that you want to hear. And being a supernatural entity, he is able to perform miracles that are so awesome that most people are not mentally or spiritually prepared for it. So they will deny the true Christ simply by accepting that synagogue of satan and believing truly and totally that he is Christ. Verse 2:

2 Peter 2:2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

In other words those that believe that that first messiah that shows soon on the scene is the true Christ and anyone that denies him they will speak evil of that person. You can rest assured they will. As normal as any Christian would if someone talks against Christ, they are going to unknowingly defend him. There’s just one problem. By not patiently sticking to the word of God and by listening to men’s traditions, they will go to the first messiah rather than the 2nd as is so aptly brought forth in the word of God by Christ Himself as we will discover those events that transpire in this hour, this hour of temptation. Verse 3:

2 Peter 2:3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words

    Feigned words are fabricated words.

make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.

In other words God is aware of what’s happening. Verse 4:

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned,

That’s to say in the first earth age that third, as it is written in the 12th chapter of that book of Revelation, that followed satan himself. If he didn’t spare them:

    but cast [them] down to hell, and delivered [them] into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

As it is written in the book of Jude. Verse 5:

2 Peter 2:5 And spared not the old world,

That is to say the first earth age. Now let’s come back to this one and we’ll go to Noah.

but saved Noah the eighth [person],

    Even in Noah’s flood.

    a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;

God didn’t spare them. But the fallen angels that inner-mixed with the daughters of Adam as it is written in Genesis 6, and there was only one family that was clear of that in that sense. In other words, what is he saying here? God was able to deliver Noah from that hour of temptation. He was able to deliver him from His own wrath, that is to say God’s wrath. Let me just go one step further on that. How did He do that? Through Noah’s obedience to build the ark. Noah was obedient to God. Are you? Verse 6:

2 Peter 2:6 And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample

Or in other words an example.

    unto those that after should live ungodly;

In other words it was an example of what sodomy and the things that were transpiring there in Sodom and Gomorrah and you remember what happened to the two angels that went to the city and approached Lot… In other words He was able to do what? Verse 7:

2 Peter 2:7 And delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked:

In other words what God was able to do with Sodom and Gomorrah with fire and brimstone was a prime example of what shall be in this end generation at Hamon-gog and Armageddon. It was a type. It was an example of what God is about to do. Will you be spared? If you follow after the wicked one you will perish with the wicked as far as escaping the first death. In other words let me say the first resurrection. You will not partake in the first resurrection but will have to go through the second because you were deceived. Why? By listening to men rather than understanding the plan of salvation of God by these wonderful examples He sets forth here in this book. He was able to deliver those that trusted in Him. Lot trusted Him. Noah trusted Him. Lot was obedient to Him and Noah was obedient to Him. And God saved them which was an example full of His salvation for you even today. Obedience to His word. Alright? Verse 8:

2 Peter 2:8 (For that righteous man dwelling among them,

Bearing the iniquity of hell, basically… Sodom and Gomorrah

in seeing and hearing, vexed [his] righteous soul from day to day with [their] unlawful deeds;)

It disturbed him to be around that sort of thing. One more verse, verse 9:

2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations,

We’re talking about the hour of temptation. God knows how to deliver those that are obedient and those that love His word. He is able to deliver the Godly out of temptations:

and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:

He can do it. Do you trust Him? Do you believe that? If you had faith to believe that then you wouldn’t worry about the end times because it’s not going to be tempting to you. Anytime you are well informed and are not biblically illiterate whereby you understand God’s plan, you’re never going to find, regardless of how many miracles he works, satan to be tempting. Quite to the contrary, he’s going to be an abomination. Filth! Filth that he is parading on this earth as messiah! And the unlearned shall whore after him thinking it is the true Christ.

Let’s return back to that 3rd chapter of Revelation a moment considering the fact that the hour of temptation and that God would deliver you from it at that 10th verse. He would keep you from that hour of temptation, that God is able to deliver… it’s not the rapture my friend that is commonly taught. I think that anyone would be intelligent enough to see that simply by understanding as we complete theses lectures on this subject, the hour of temptation, how that God intends to use His servants. That’s what servants are for. That in their love and loyalty to Him, they serve Him. Let’s go on to the 11th verse where we left to go to Peter there.

Rev 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Don’t be robbed my friend. There will be people trying to do that. Trying to sway you into the great church of the end times with the false messiah. That is called the first tribulation. There are two. Unfortunately only one is taught. Most speak of the tribulation of God but God’s not angry at you. God doesn’t want to destroy you and He’s able to bring you through His wrath even as he did for Noah and Lot. That’s why the example. Verse 12:

    Rev 3:12 Him that overcometh

Well how do you overcome? There were only 2 churches out of the 7 my friend that were overcomers. The others were somewhat off. Those that are those overcomers have that Key of David and know who the Kenites are as it is written.

will I make a pillar in the temple of my God,

    Think about that.

and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, [which is] new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and [I will write upon him] my new name.

Do you know what that new name is? It’s written. It’s even mentioned already in the 2nd chapter of this book. Maybe ultimately we’ll go there but I don’t intend to right now. I want to teach you what that name was and yet is and shall always be. Because within the name itself it is a verb to take place and gives you the action that you must perform to put you in that good standing and to escape the hour of temptation. Hey, it is great when it’s something you know and what’s desperately bad for you is not tempting; satan the filth and scum of the heavens and the earth. I don’t find him tempting at all and I know he’s coming first to deceive the poor wretched unlearned. That does not make me happy. And that is one of the reasons I have dedicated my life to teaching the truth of God’s word and receiving His blessings in bringing that word forth so that others could learn and know and could understand that name.

With that thought in mind let’s still keep in mind the name, but let’s go if we may over to the 17th chapter of this great book of Revelation. I want to show you again about the hour of temptation and what hour He’s talking about. It is a symbolic hour in the sense that a great deal of knowledge hinges on that hour because it even allows you to have the information and knowledge in hand and in mind as to the length of time for the elect’s sake, as it is written in Mark 13, that God shortened the 7 years of tribulation; both His and the false messiah’s, for those that had the knowledge to overcome. Let Him give you that new name and allow yourself to escape that hour of temptation by coming to the full knowledge of God and find the wickedness no longer tempting. Because of the seal of God which will be placed in your forehead which is to say the truth in your brain, your mind.

Revelation 17, verse 8. This is not a parable nor put into parable form, necessarily, but for those that have eyes to see it is the explanation of the parable of the 10 world leaders spoken of in the 13th chapter of the book of Revelation. But in as much as the subject is the hour of temptation, we bypass that part and pick it up in the 8th verse, Revelation 17:8 and still with our minds on the hour of temptation, let us begin.

Rev 17:8 The beast that thou sawest

That is to say what John saw in his vision

In other words he was in the first earth age

    and is not;

Christ has ordered him to be behind Himself although his evil spirits can come on this earth. Satan is held by the archangel, Michael as the 12th chapter of this great book reiterated and made very clear and simple, until Michael will cast him out on this earth very soon as false messiah.

and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit,

That is to say his place of holding which is a level of degradation, yes even in paradise. A figure of speech, hang on…

    and go into perdition:

Now there is only one son of perdition. Let there be no doubt in your mind because that is the chief identifier with the word perdition, which means to perish, because God has not held judgment day for anyone with the exception of satan himself. And he has been judged. He has had his judgment day and his sentence is death or to perish. So let there be no doubt in your mind of whom we are discussing. There is only one. So you can’t get too confused. There’s really not a matter of multiple choice. There is only one and that’s satan and his synagogue.

and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life

That new name if you would, recorded in that book…

from the foundation of the world,

That is to say his election and there is also a book with those that love Christ, even among the ethnos that are also in that book.

when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

Why is he “yet is”? Because he is going to be tossed out. Now comes the explanation of how that will come to pass. Verse 9… Now do you understand that in as much as he was and yet is not on earth today and this is addressed to earth, but in heaven, and yet shall be, that we have 3 different segments there. And satan carries many names as Lucifer, satan, the devil, the dragon, the serpent… All of those are utilized in Revelation chapter 12 verse 7 & 8 as well as chapter 20 verse 1 of the great Book of Revelation; the many names of satan, but there are about 17 of them. So think about it. And in the languages to a linguist, those names are a definition of his morals and his actions. Verse 9:

Rev 17:9 And here [is] the mind which hath wisdom.

How about it? Open yours up. Has God opened that door for you that will allow you to escape the hour of temptation? Then open up and let the wisdom that God has placed in your mind sink in and understand the scriptures.

The seven heads are seven mountains,

That means they are seven nations, being seven dominions that the beast is comprised of which controls the world. It’s called the one world system.

    on which the woman sitteth.

Who is the woman? That great Mystery Babylon, the harlot and those that whore after the false christ thinking he is Jesus. That’s who she is. Verse 10, sharpen up:

Rev 17:10 And there are seven kings:

These are not 7 different kings they are 7 titles of satan in different roles that he has played throughout the first earth age and the 2nd earth age to this date.

    five are fallen,

5 of those roles have already come to pass even at the time of this writing.

    and one is,

Old satan is always on the job.

    [and] the other is not yet come;

But he will. Why? He’s being held by Michael in the heavens as it is written in Revelation 12 verse 7.

and when he cometh, he must continue

    How long?

    a short space.

A 5-month period as it is defined Revelation chapter 9. But hang on to that thought for a moment. Verse 11:

Rev 17:11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth,

Same old boy playing the same old games. It doesn’t take you that long to wise up to him when you relate it to temptation my friend. Deception.

    and is of the seven,

Why? Because he is all seven just different titles.

    and goeth into perdition.

There again, get acquainted with the word perdition. It is the same prime root as satan’s name. So that you know that the son of perdition, the one that goes into perdition is satan, the false messiah. He that was the archangel that protected the mercy seat which has a messiah connotation, meaning he wanted to be the Messiah himself. But he was not, never has been, and never will be, with the exception that he is the spurious messiah, allowed by God to deceive those that have not loved God’s word to the point that they listen to it rather than the traditions of men. How are you fixed for blades friend? That’s just an old military saying that mean, how you doing, you hanging in there pretty tough yet? Well hang in some more. 12:

    Rev 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet;

    Listen to me.

but receive power as kings one hour with the beast.

One hour? There it is my friend, that hour of temptation. Real quickly, let’s go to Isaiah, let’s go to the Old Testament for just a moment. Isaiah 65. I want to insert a few thoughts here. Isaiah 65 verse 11, and it reads:

Isaiah 65:11 But ye [are] they that forsake the LORD,

In other words God is putting a curse upon those that will not hold to His word. Listen to it. I’m going to read it rather rapidly here.

    that forget my holy mountain,

    That’s Zion.

that prepare a table for that troop,

The wrong troop. The wrong host. It’s gad in the Hebrew.

and that furnish the drink offering unto that number.

Unfortunately the wrong drink and the wrong number. God of faith is who gad is, alright, in the troop. Unfortunately it will be the bad fate of many to walk that path. Therefore in verse 12:

Isaiah 65:12 Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter:

Very religious thing friend. They will be deceived.

because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose [that] wherein I delighted not.

People are always going the wrong direction and listening to the wrong people when they have their Father to listen to. Listen to Him. 13:

Isaiah 65:13 Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, my servants

That is to say, “those that I protect”.

shall eat, but ye shall be hungry:

Whenever that famine of the end times comes what is it? Amos chapter 8. The famine is not for bread but it is a famine or starving to hear the true word of God because there will not be that many teaching the true word of God at that time.

behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty: behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be ashamed:

Thou preparest a table for me in the face of mine enemies. Has He prepared that table for you in this generation?

Isaiah 65:14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry for sorrow of heart, and shall howl for vexation of spirit.

Unfortunately, wrong spirit friend. Verse 15:

Isaiah 65:15 And ye shall leave your name

Here comes the name part now.

for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name:

Do you have that name, as I’ve asked? Yeah, we’re in the Old Testament, but it the same one speaking, your Father. Do you have that name? He calls His servants by another name. Verse 16:

    Isaiah 65:16 That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth;

Have you? Here’s the truth friend.

and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes.

In other words, “I will forgive every sin that those that love me commit, those that hold my word precious and I will even give them a new name”.

We’re going to go to chapter 62 in closing this lecture and we’re going to observe that name. And as we begin, we find that name, in verse 1, and I’m going to read this rather rapidly:

Isaiah 62:1 For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp [that] burneth.

Many might think that God’s long suffering and patience goes forever. Well it doesn’t. He just gives everyone one a chance.

    Isaiah 62:2 And the Gentiles

That is to say the nations

shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

And I might add, He has. Verse 3:

Isaiah 62:3 Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

Do you stick to the real truth? Do you realize that you are royalty? When you absolutely have your eyes open, your ears can hear and you’re a servant of the living God. Verse 4:

Isaiah 62:4 Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate:

That is to say the desolation or desolator of Daniel the prophet when the false messiah stands in the temple claiming to be God.

but thou shalt be called Hephzibah,

Do you know what that means? It means My delight is in her. That’s what the name is. Those that God is delighted in. Hephzibah.

    and thy land

    And even the land itself

Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

Joined. In other words God has returned. That He is here. As it is written in Ezekiel chapter 16. And it was His favorite spot on the earth, even from the heavens. Now listen on. What about the name? Verse 5:

Isaiah 62:5 For [as] a young man marrieth a virgin, [so] shall thy sons marry thee: and [as] the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, [so] shall thy God rejoice over thee.

Married to God and called the wife and the bride. The reason both terms are utilized in Revelation 19. Verse 6:

Isaiah 62:6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem,

You know what a watchman does? He watches for the true events to come to pass

[which] shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,

You keep blowing that trumpet. You stay on guard. You stay on watch. You keep telling the truth. You say it over and over. You wake up those that are asleep. 7:

Isaiah 62:7 And give him no rest,

    That’s silence.

till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

It isn’t yet friend but it is going to be some day. Verse 8:

Isaiah 62:8 The LORD hath sworn by his right hand,

You can count on it friend. God has sworn by His right hand. This will come to pass but it hasn’t yet.

and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn [to be] meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:

No more more NAFTA or world banks. No more one worldism whereby goods and monies are regulated by a one world system, but rather by our honest Father. Verse 9:

Isaiah 62:9 But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.

In other words you’re the one that’s going to enjoy it. Or what have you done for God lately? It is your riches in heaven. Your works do go with you as it is reported in Revelation chapter 14. Isaiah 62 verse 10:

    Isaiah 62:10 Go through, go through the gates;

    You go on in.

    prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones;

In other words, kick the rocks out of the road and decipher the truth in such a way that a child can understand it to find his way into the kingdom of God. Make it easy for those to follow.

lift up a standard for the people.

In other words lift up Christ and the standard, the word of God, and Christ the living word, and place it and keep it in sight of the people. Verse 11:

Isaiah 62:11 Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world,

Has that happened yet? No. We’re still in the 2nd earth age.

Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward [is] with him, and his work before him.

His recompense is with Him. What has He said? For the good it’s good but for the bad unfortunately it’s bad. But you love Him, He forgives your shortcomings and utilizes you in His salvation plan. Verse 12, and the completion:

Isaiah 62:12 And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called,

    Called what? Called what?

Sought out, A city not forsaken.

And also His people called out. Hey friend, is He calling you? Have you always known there was more to God’s word then you had been taught? Do your eyes see into the deeper truths?

We’re going to pick this up in the next lecture, The Hour of Temptation, and that new name. Don’t miss it.
